How It Works
(1) Complete a short intake form. Covers your income sources, filing situation, equity comp, and other potential complexities of your tax situation. Takes 5–10 minutes.
(2) We confirm your tier and fee within 48 hours. Surprise bills are no fun. Your fee is set before any work begins.
(3) Upload your documents securely. Prior-year returns and any relevant supporting documents are shared through our client portal.
(4) We do the work. Basic engagements take 5–10 business days. Premium includes a discovery call before we start to discuss goals and objectives of the tax projection.
(5) You get a written deliverable — and a call to walk through it. Clear findings, actionable recommendations, and plain English.

Are you a Financial Advisor?
TaxFTW is available as a specialist tax resource for clients of other advisory firms. We handle the tax strategy — you keep the full planning and investment relationship.
We're an advice-only, fee-only firm with no interest in managing investment assets. That makes us a non-threatening referral partner. Your client gets expert tax guidance. You look better for providing it.

Frequent Asked Questions
-
No. TaxFTW is advice and strategy only. We review your existing returns, identify issues, model scenarios, and give you a clear written plan. If you need someone to prepare or file your return, we can help point you in the right direction.
-
Oftentimes, yes. Many CPAs are focused on preparing and filing your return accurately, while generally working under time pressure caused by compliance deadlines. TaxFTW focuses on strategy: finding opportunities your CPA may not have had time to explore and planning ahead to reduce what you'll owe in future years. Many TaxFTW clients have a CPA for their tax filing and use us for the planning layer on top, as well as a second set of eyes on the accuracy of their return.

Basic is a review of what's already happened — we look at your prior returns and tell you what we found: potential errors, planning opportunities and recommended next steps. Premium adds forward-looking planning: projections and scenario modeling. If you're not sure which fits, the intake form will help us figure it out.
-
The intake form will help us figure that out together. As a rough guide: if you mostly have W-2 income and standard investments, Basic is probably right for you. If you have equity compensation, a business, real estate, international exposure, and/or you're planning a major transaction — Premium is likely a better fit.

Basic engagements are typically delivered within 5–10 business days of receiving your documents. Premium engagements include a discovery call before we start, to identify the objectives of your tax projection, and delivery typically within 10–15 business days. We'll confirm timing at the start of your engagement.
-
After you submit the intake form, we review your situation and confirm your tier and fee within 48 hours — before any work begins. If your return turns out to be significantly more complex than the intake indicated, we'll pause and discuss with you before continuing. No surprise bills.
-
If your return reveals significantly more complexity than your intake form indicated, we'll pause before continuing and discuss your options. You can upgrade your tier or receive a partial deliverable at your original fee. We never increase your fee without your explicit consent.
-
We review FBAR (FinCEN 114) and FATCA (Form 8938) filing obligations, foreign tax credits, PFIC exposure, and foreign entity interests. We don't prepare or file these forms — we identify issues, model the tax impact (if any), and advise on next steps. Clients who need compliance filings will be referred to a qualified international tax CPA or attorney.
-
No — it's a standalone service. That said, some TaxFTW clients choose to continue into a full financial planning relationship (PlanFTW) after seeing the quality of work. That conversation happens at the end of the engagement, if it's relevant to you.
